A friend of mine sent me a couple of pictures yesterday...all of them are under the JPEG format. It doesn't have a file extension one of them has s(4.0KB) after a long string of numbers? No surprise, the problem transferred with the image. Probably some corruption happened when you saved them. All Rights Reserved. I would email them and ask about it, because something is definitely wrong. Trying to open using Faststone gives a blank black screen. I am pretty sure I have some images that come from screen capture using SnagIt that can't be previewed, but for the moment do not see one of those.

The jpg files copied from the thumb drive to a hard drive in my Win7 PC would not show up in Photoshop or Faststone. In other words passing an image through Photoshop converts it from being unable to open to being able to open in Windows picture and fax viewer.
- Personally, I've never downloaded any such file.
- Do the files work on a Mac?
- I get the autoplay come up.
- Somehow it seems you don't.Please tell where such pictures come from, and what program you use to view and save.

In fact, you can use MS Paint to open as .bmp and save as .jpg..art is more difficult. I Cant Open My Photos On My Mac I copied some photos from the thumb drive to a hard drive in my Win7 tower. At other times (as with the *.art files) if the application (browser or email client) does not "understand" a file format it will only offer an option to save in that I am running Windows XP with SP3 installed.

I had some problems with videos. Thank you for helping us maintain CNET's great community. Thanks a bunch everybody...I hope I'm in the right forum. That probably means the images are fine on the server, but yahoo's download script is doing something to them that is causing them turn into garbage.
But I get a message saying something like 'no new photos found', so nothing happens. (remember, I haven't backed up my photos before, so all my photos should be 'new'!)method 2 Are there special codec for jpg files?
