Did you know that the IoT version of Windows, which will run on the Raspberry Pi, will be free to consumers? I still use Windows in a VM but am no longer dependent on it. I never experienced any ill effects from disabling updates, but I have had numerous issues from letting these updates run their course. Maybe I missed it, but I have yet to see an official Microsoft statement saying Windows will never be subscription....which, interestingly enough, is what this article is firmly concluding. Source
